Mercy Academy jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but the Holy Cross Cougars were able to keep the score at 1-0 thanks to their great defense.
Holy Cross led by the score of 2-1 in the top of the 5th inning with 2 outs. All they had to do was hit the ball, let Mercy Academy catch it, get 3 quick outs, and watch the lightning strike in the sky. However, that was not on the agenda.
The Holy Cross Cougars kept attacking Mercy Academy, increasing their lead to 3-1 in the top of the 5th inning. Lightning was clearly visible but had not been spotted by the umpire. As the next Lady Cougar took the plate, a large portion of the sky lit up, and the game was called "incomplete" because 5 full innings had not been played.
Holy Cross was one out away from victory. They could have simply struck out and won, but now the outcome is to be decided at a later date and time.
